WEATHER UPDATE #1: Expect rains this week

The tail-end of a cold front will continue to bring rains in the Philippines this week, the weather bureau said yesterday.

But no tropical storm is expected to affect the country this week, although the tail-end of a cold front aggravated by the La Nina phenomenon, will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains, particularly over Luzon (including the Bicol Region). Rains experienced in some parts over the past few days were caused by a cold front aggravated by the La Niña phenomenon. The weather bureau warned of above normal rainfall this month due to the La Niña. Weather scientists expect one more tropical to enter the Philippines before the end of the year. La Niña refers to the abnormal cooling of sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific and is characterized by excessive rainfall.
